The use of natural procedures for keeping in good health is one of the thousand years traditions of the East. The plants and minerals have been objects of study and sources of remedies from the beginning of these cultures, a custom that has not been lost. Logically, an element as natural and so much part of earth as are stones could not remain far from this reality. In this case we are talking of a stone called Bakuhan-seki, which we also refer to as "healing stone".

Bakuhan-seki literally means "stone of the grain of wheat". The name comes from the appearance, the stone is like a group of grains of wheat put together, which gives an idea of its enormous porosity, one of its main peculiarities along with the high capacity of absorption and the faculty of expelling natural minerals contained in the stone itself. These are the characters that make possible the properties of the stone, as we will now see.

The quarries of these stones, which is a granite, are located in Mongolia and China, basically, but its properties have been known since two thousand years not only there but also in neighbouring countries such as Japan and Korea, among others.

One of the main properties of this stone is that of absorbing the toxic substances in water, chlorine among others, which opens up a wide range of possibilities of application. According to a report provided to us by the company, elaborated by the Japanes University of Miyazaki, it is also used with success in other areas, such as cattle breeding. It has been proved that supplying the cattle water treated with Bakuhan stone leads to several improvements such as the production of milk and accelerates the growth of plants. In the case of persons, its efficiency in the treatment of some skin problems has been noted. Some studies highlight the efficiency of the use of dust from Bakuhan in not very severe cases of dermatitis. These are some of the applications of this "healing stone".

It is the company TSUGE GRANITE which has decided to commercialise the Bakuhan stone through specific products. Presented in the form of small spheres, it can be used to eliminate chlorine in the water we intend to consume, some powders of Bakuhan in the bath tub which supposedly make the water free of toxic elements and make it rich in minerals, with the resulting benefit for our health. One can also add water to the aquarium. According to the company, a fish can only survive three hours inside an aquarium with normal water, but in Bakuhan treated water, it can survive twenty days. Water treated with Bakuhan contains little alkali substances and many minerals.

TSUGE GRANITE offered two practical demonstrations of the properties of this stone. For hardened smokers, a solution for reducing the quantity of nicotine that reaches the lungs. Smoking by holding the cigarette between two plain pieces of stone leads to the effect of a grand part of nicotine being absorbed ; the effect can be noted immediately for the taste is much lighter. It is somewhat uncomfortable but using a more sophisticated method it becomes really efficient. Another practical application : a cushion so that the eyes can relax, since the nerves around the ocular globe are activated and the visual sharpness increases. Inside the cushion there is 100 % salt proceeding from Mongolia ( where it is known as " the source of life"), and Bakuhan in small balls. Ten minutes later over the eyes and - it works! And a third application of daily use: cooking in casseroles and frying pans made of this stone. The manufacturers affirm that the food cooked in these receptacles has better taste because having been made in natural stone allows one to savour all the ingredients of the food, however, we have not been able to confirm this. One more property is that of impeding the deterioration of oil of human consumption because of re-utilisation. One can also use it in drinks different from water but the taste changes slightly (at this point, the use or not of the Bakuhan stone depends on the priorities of the consumer).

This is only a small sample of the activities of this "healing stone", the properties of which, according to the company, are backed by studies done by the Japanese University of Miyazaki. In an age when there is trend to return to natural products for safety and health considerations, products of this type will arouse the interest of many.
